Phnom Penh
The Royal Palace…
Originally a statue of
Napoleon on a horse, but then his head was
replaced with the Cambodian
King’s head…
The school bus…
The food hall in the
Russian Market…
A little bit of luxury at
our hotel…
The S21 prison was a
school where the people were processed
before being sent to the
Killing Fields. Very sobering…
Birthday celebrations for
the old King’s 90th birthday. All
of Phnom Penh was out to see it. While
waiting for
the fireworks to start, we
bought a beer from someone selling drinks from an eski
on the street. For
some reason it didn’t seem so
wrong that she was only 12 years old…
The trip to Battambang…
Battambang
Riding the bamboo train. While it used to be a means of transport for
the locals,
it's pretty much a tourist
attraction nowadays, although it’s days are numbered
as they are fixing the
tracks for normal trains…
When bamboo trains meet,
they need to be dismantled and put aside
for the other to pass…
Ruins and the temple at Ek Phnom…
The mountain top temples
at Phnom Sampoy, 20km from Battambang
by tuk-tuk…
The morning market, where
we stocked up on produce for our
cooking class…
The ingredients for our
fish amok…
Nice pink chef hats… Didn’t matter, as the end result was
delicious!
The temples around Battambang…
The 7hr boat trip from Battambang to Siem Reap…
The rice sacks made a
good beanbag type seat…
Stopped for a break at
the floating deli and village…
Our boat stopped
regularly to pick up produce and passengers as we passed through
the floating villages…
Signs of the recent
flooding. This temple isn’t
floating and was nearly breached…
Siem Reap
The fabulous Golden
Temple hotel…
Night market and food
stalls…
Angkor Wat
Our tuk-tuk,
with Senna (not quite his real name) our driver for
the 3 days of temple hopping…
The faces at Bayon…
Ta Prohm
“tree in” temple…
Doctor fish after a hard
day of temple action…
Early morning back at
Angkor Wat…
Another shot of Senna…
Pre Rup temple…
The incredibly detailed,
tiny Banteay Sre temple…
Banteay Samre…
Prasat Kravan…
Bas-reliefs of Vishnu,
the long strider, when he took over the world…
The central market in Siem Reap. Where we ate KFC (Khmer
Fried Chicken)…
Katy making the most of
her $4 (for 1hr) foot massage…
Our last night in Siem Reap back at the night market…
